Day 44 – Cross Country Bike Tour – Victor to Syracuse, NY
85 miles, +2558/-2710 feet
Big day of cross country rollers through the New York countryside.
Leaving Victor this morning the riders headed out on country roads through small towns and eventually to the lakeside town of Geneva, and the beautiful sparkling water of the Finger Lakes.
Throughout our journey, the weather has been close to perfect most every day with the exception of a storm outside Topeka and a rainy day outside Erie. Today was no exception. The sky was a very vibrant clear blue with a few big white clouds. The fields, in contrast, are extremely green. The riders have enjoyed very good roads.
Safety is the #1 concern when riding cross country. We are very pleased with the reflective triangles worn by the riders.
In addition to the Finger Lakes, the Erie Canal Park was on today’s list of things to stop and see. Striking up a conversation with a man also taking in the sights, Steve met a guy who works in conjunction with his bike shop in Portland. Small world!
Last, but certainly not least, we spent some time at a local ice cream shop. Lots of ice cream was consumed — before nap time.
