Day 34 – Cross Country Bike Tour – Champaign, IL, to Crawfordsville, IN

79 miles, +1662/-1651 feet

Seventy-nine miles becomes a shorter day when you ride cross country day after day after day.  The miles tick away one after another.  Having the totally amazing tailwind that we have enjoyed for so many days doesn’t hurt either. The riders are still smiling~

We’ve come a long way now and it’s fun to think back to the early days of tour and remember the desert.  In contrast, we are now in the land of colorful gardens, green fields and contrast.

Each little town has a church, and usually two.  Every one of them has it’s own charm.

Finding a place in the shade to set up the Feed Zone is always a challenge.  We’ve been very fortunate to find shade more often than not.  Today it looked like a this:

Hillsboro is a unique town to ride through on the way to Crawfordsville.  They have a wall of bikes that now have flower pots added to them for color.

Wall of bikes!

Today a man approached me and wanted to sell me 15 bikes he purchased some time ago to fix up and “make a little money”. They were apparently from a former school program.  I suggested he donate them and he was thrilled with that idea – said he didn’t have room to keep them around anymore.  I’m sure some kids somewhere will be very happy to have bikes to ride.

The landscape was very relaxing to look at today.  Enjoy!

On, and by the way, we’re in Indiana now in the Eastern Time Zone…
