When we left the hotel this morning we were told it was going to be very hot….over 100 degrees.  Within an hour, the riders had taken shelter on the porch of a very old house.

The wind blew hard (harder than I’ve ever seen before) and it rained with thunder and lightening.  Driving back to the riders with rain coats, it hailed.  As cross country riders do, they waited it out and then rode on.

Thunder and lightening, but no rain….yet.

Moving forward we headed for our Feed Zone stop at Jellystone Park, an RV park here in Kansas.  By the time we arrived it was toasty warm with kids swimming in the pool.  Yogi was the official greeter.  The park was very nice and they were extremely gracious in allowing us to use their facilities.  When leaving they mentioned how “comfortable” we looked in our chairs set out by the back of the van. They were right!

This evening we’re in Merriam, Kansas, preparing to ride through Kansas City in the morning, cross the state line into Missouri, and cross the Missouri River on our way to Richmond.

For now, it’s lights out.
