Day 30 – Cross Country Bike Tour – Moberly to Hannibal, MO
68 miles, +2068/-2448 feet
Again, we had wonderful weather today for the ride from Moberly to Hannibal. Our first SAG stop was in Paris and our second in Monroe City. Both, very pleasant. Monroe City has a nice city park where we were able to park the van in the shade and relax for a few minutes. Steve, always keeping busy when not riding, worked on his own bike in preparation for tomorrow’s ride.
Hannibal’s Historic District is colorful and interesting. Mark Twain is, of course, the center piece of town. They’ve done a very good job, and made it a fun experience. I even had the opportunity to help paint his fence this afternoon!
The bridge across the river here in Hannibal the perfect crossing for a cross country rider or any cyclist. It is wide bridge with a well designed bike lane. It is safe and truly a thrill to ride across. The Mississippi River moves along very quickly with huge old logs floating in the current, tug boats and barges. I was told today they are probably filled with grain. It’s quite something to see and not soon forgotten. Tomorrow morning will be an epic rider experience. Tonight, it’s eat well and sleep. Another day of cycling will soon be ours.
