Heartlands Regional Tour – Desert, Cows, and Corn
Santa Fe, NM to Champaign, IL
Approximately 1300 miles
16 riding days/2 rest days/19 nights
Sixteen days of diverse landscape riding the Heartlands Regional Tour, with two rest days in the middle can satisfy the cyclist who wants a taste of it all, but can’t manage the time (this year) to ride the entire Sea to Sea tour. This regional tour travels through amazing vistas on the way to Tucumcari, NM and then past more cows than you can imagine on the way to Dalhart, TX. Visit Dorothy’s house and the Mid-America Air Museum in Liberal, KS, where the corn is growing and bright green – in shocking contrast to the desert. Visit Eisenhower’s boyhood home in Abilene and enjoy the Greyhound Hall of Fame right across the street. Looking forward to a well-earned day of rest, first celebrate the many miles pedaled so far with a picnic lunch in Eisenhower Park and Rose Garden. Take a day to rest in the “wild frontier town of the Old West”, Dodge City, KS, and then head east again as you look forward to visiting Kansas City where you will ride the beautiful canal trail. Pedaling on across Missouri, you will cross the Might Mississippi River into Illinois, but first, perhaps a tour through Mark Twain’s Boyhood Home and Museum or a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat in Hannibal, MO on your next rest day?
Reserve your space today for 2018!
*Each regional tour is a part of the Sea to Shining Sea – Tour across the United States. If necessary, pricing to start or end your tour at an alternative location on our route can be provided. Tour dates, however, may not be changed. View full itinerary.
