Day 43 – Cross Country Bike Tour – Hamburg to Victor, NY

89 miles, +3448/-3636 feet

New York State is truly a beautiful state with good roads and picturesque landscape. Right now there are lots of flowers blooming and the cultivated fields are green and lush making our cross country ride colorful and fresh. The cycling in New York State is excellent as most of the roads have very well maintained shoulders. Many of the roads have bike route designations and signage indicating “share the road”.  Always good to see!

With the fourth of July weekend in full swing, the local decor is very red, white and blue.  Flags are waving in the breeze and fire works stands are plentiful. There wasn’t much traffic on the roads, but then we weren’t on the roads where much traffic would be found any day of the week. There are always interesting and unique things to look at as you ride along in addition to the homes, towns, and landscape.  Today, for instance, there was a country store that was remarkable.

The riders experienced some very large rollers today with a stiff tailwind which made them very, very fast.  We stopped two times to open up the Big Dream Feed Zone and made sandwiches on Kaiser Rolls, Mark’s favorite.  It’s almost funny to see just how much a rider can eat when they are riding cross country.  It is truly a ride, eat, sleep, repeat existence.

We are down to five full riding days ahead of us before we ride to to the beach.  Hard to believe….it seems like just yesterday we were saying there were only five weeks to go.  The time ticks away just as fast as the miles. Tomorrow we visit the Finger Lakes and the Erie Canal.  Good pictures ahead!
